After the last race at Northampton “International” Raceway this week it’s Aldershot, which hardly even pretends to be a “stadium” of any kind, a tarmac oval with the in-field marked by painted lines and a few strategically placed tractor tyres. A toilet shed, a burger van and, being a Bank Holiday weekend, I guess, an inflatable thing calling itself a fun-fair.
Damian can’t recall racing Legends here, but apparently did race mini-stocks at Aldershot, and prior to the meet was warned that the Aldershot track was “difficult”. The bends have a slight adverse camber making grip hard to find, and that was the story of the weekend, whatever setup Damian went with didn’t seem to make much difference.
The racing however was pretty good from a spectator point of view. The weekend featured 2.0 hot-rods, who always put on a good show, and the Legends races were as competitive as always. Damian finished 14th in heat #1, the highest finishing rookie, and 13th in heat #2. In the Final Damian finished a respectable 9th, and is the highest placed rookie on the current (un)official points chart for the 2017 season.
Videos are on YouTube of both heats and the final.
