Northampton “International” Raceway, a track in a field with some toilet “sheds” and a snack bar! We were here in 2008 and it was the least inspiring racing I can remember from Damian’s previous Legend’s career, so off up the A14 we went hoping this time would be somewhat better.
For those of you who don’t know, the track at Northampton is fairly short, with some wicked high curbs on the bends, making it rather more challenging than Foxhall and requiring a different strategy. Damian had his dry tyres fitted for this race, albeit on ugly black wheels (as he discovered some of his silver wheels were a bit bent!).
Being still a rookie he started the heats at the back of the grid. Rookie status lasts for the first 3 meetings of the season, after which he’ll be graded based on results somewhere further up, hopefully. Heat #1 he finished 10th, and heat #2 8th, and that was from dead last, so not too bad all things considered. He was shunted in the 2nd heat however and sustained damage to his nearside (left) rear wing.
Damian was progressing well in the Final race of the afternoon but unfortunately was disqualified with just a couple of laps to go having lost the wing that had suffered damage in the previous race.
Videos for all 3 races are available on YouTube.
