Hednesford – June 2018 – we’re back!

Legend #114 is back in action, Damian’s ban has been completed, and the first race of 2018 he was eligible to compete in took place on Sunday 10th June at Hednesford Hills Raceway, the scene of last year’s disaster! The 2018 car arrived at Hednesford along with a nervous driver who wasn’t quite sure what to expect. A burning desire to win tempered by a more level headed desire to manage expectations this time round, a more mature Damian took to the field.

Starting on the 7th row of the grid in heat #1, and the 8th row in heat #2 we had no real idea how this was going to pan out. The car looked fast in testing, but with no other cars on track testing can be deceiving. The object of the exercise here was to gain places if possible, but mostly to see how car, and driver, coped with racing again, and get everything, and everyone, home in one piece.

In heat #1 Damian finished a respectable 6th, but his friend and rival, Daniel “Golden” Holden started behind and finished in front, so still work to do if Damian wanted to compete for wins.

In heat #2 Damian finished 6th again, but was docked 2 places for contact with another car. This was a tad unfair because the other car slowed in the corner backing into Damian as much as he moved into the back of him, but nevertheless the other car spun, Damian was judged to be at fault, and after initially being disqualified he was docked 2 places instead, so I guess we can’t complain.

This left Damian with a lot of work to do in the Final, and hopes were dashed anyway when he was spun himself and sent to the back. However a sterling drive saw him finish in 7th, so all in all a reasonable weekend, and Damian picks up some much needed points after missing the first several races of the season, and goes home with only a bent bumper this time.
