Damian took part in the opening race of the 2017 Oval Track Legends season on 18th March at Foxhall stadium, Ipswich, his first competitive race in a Legends car since 2010.
The track was wet, it’d rained for some hours prior to the race, and it was cold, and Damian’s priority at this race was not to damage the car! Heat #1 Damian started near the back of the grid, in the “rookie” class, and surprised everyone, including himself, by finishing 4th, going past 17 experienced Legends drivers in the process!
So surprised was everyone that Damian’s car was called to the post-race inspection (normally it’s only the top 3).
Heat #2 Damian started dead last, behind all the other rookies, making it harder to move up the grid. He still managed a respectable 17th but the main thing was to get the car home in one piece, and there appeared to be a few other drivers taking the same view.
In the Final Damian lined up 20th on the grid, and finished 11th.
Here are videos of the heats and the final race, although not that great quality. It seems my 10-year old camera is not up to the job these days (giving me a perfect excuse to buy a new one!)
